A Ministry of Compassion, Presence, and Hope
At the Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is one of the quiet engines of mercy in our parish. Rooted in prayer and guided by the Gospel, our Vincentians serve with humility, compassion, and deep respect for the dignity of every person. When we say “You Belong Here,” we mean it — especially for those facing hardship, uncertainty, or isolation.
Here, no one is a stranger. Everyone is a neighbor.
Who We Are: A Global Mission of Charity
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic lay organization founded in 1833 by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam. Inspired by the life and example of St. Vincent de Paul, the Society’s mission is simple and profound:

HOLINESS
To grow in holiness

COMMUNITY
To build a community of charity and friendship

SERVICE
To serve Christ in those who are poor, suffering, or forgotten
Vincentians around the world are united by core values that shape every act of service:
- Simplicity – living the Gospel with honesty and openness
- Humility – recognizing Christ as the source of all good
- Gentleness – approaching every neighbor with compassion
- Selflessness – giving without seeking recognition
- Zeal – serving with love, energy, and dedication
- Charity – seeing Christ in every person
One of the Society’s most cherished traditions is the home visit — meeting neighbors where they are, listening to their stories, and offering help with respect and confidentiality. This personal encounter is at the heart of Vincentian spirituality.
Our Local Conference: Love in Action
Here at Holy Spirit, our St. Vincent de Paul conference lives out this global mission in a very local, very personal way. Our Vincentians:
Visit neighbors in their homes
They sit at kitchen tables, listen to stories, pray with families, and offer support with compassion and dignity.
Provide food for the food in-secure
Through the generosity of parishioners — and with donated funds — they supply groceries to neighbors who are struggling to feed their families.
Offer financial assistance
When a neighbor is facing eviction, a utility shutoff, or the loss of a phone line, our Vincentians step in to help stabilize the situation and restore hope.
Partner with others to meet urgent needs
They collaborate with the Knights of Columbus, local food pantries, and other parishes to ensure no one falls through the cracks.
Support seasonal and emergency programs
- Thanksgiving baskets
- Christmas baskets
- Winter financial assistance
- Emergency help for families in crisis
Discern needs prayerfully
At regular meetings, Vincentians review requests, pray together, and carefully steward the donations entrusted to them.
Every act of service is grounded in the belief that Christ is present in the neighbor who calls for help.

A Vincentian will reach out, listen to your situation, and arrange a home visit if appropriate.
You are not alone.
How to Support the Ministry
Your generosity makes this ministry possible. Every dollar given goes directly to helping neighbors in need.
You can support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul through:
- The annual SVdP envelope
- The parish’s annual special collection
- Poor boxes located in our churches
Your gifts provide food, prevent evictions, keep the heat on,
restore phone service and bring hope to families facing hardship.
Thank you for your kindness.
Come and See
If you feel called to serve, or if you simply want to learn more, you are warmly invited to attend a meeting or speak with a Vincentian. This ministry is open to anyone with a compassionate heart and a desire to help.
Together, we can continue the work of St. Vincent de Paul — seeing Christ in our neighbors and bringing His love to those who need it most.
